Neuro Occupational Therapist

Emma has been a qualified Occupational Therapist for over 26 years and has a BSc (hons) Occupational Therapy degree and an MSc in Neurological Rehabilitation.

She is state registered in the United Kingdom, a members of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), the RCOT specialist section for work and has sat on the national networking group for the Therapists in Multiple Sclerosis (TiMS) for the last 11 years.


Emma has extensive experience, over 23 years, in neurological rehabilitation. This includes Acute Brain Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke and Progressive Neurological Conditions.  Emma has worked as an integral member of multi-disciplinary teams within NHS inpatient, outpatient and community services.

Alongside her NHS experience, Emma has gained indepth knowledge and experience of children with mild and complex neurodiversity, language and behavioural presentations.  She has experience of working with paediatric multi-disciplinary teams, SENCO’s, Social Workers, CAMHS, Main Stream, Special Education and Pupil Rehabilitation Units. Emma has experience of EHCPs.

Emma has some experience as an Expert Witness, assessing and producing medico-legal reports on clients with neurological presentations.

Emma’s personal achievements include writing for publication (Journal of Disability and Rehabilitation and OT news), presenting at the MS Trust conference, teaching on MS Trust and RCOT specialist section for neurology study days and leading on service evaluation and redesign projects.

In her experience Emma has demonstrated the following particular clinical skills and attributes when working with clients:

  • Ability to assess and understand clients level of occupational performance, through use of skilled communication and activity analysis.

  • Experience in behavioural analysis and ability to interpret behaviour using a biopsychosocial approach.

  • Ability to provide return to work assessment and rehabilitation programmes for people in work and struggling or on sick leave. Also able to offer work re-direction intervention.

  • Able to apply motivational interviewing skills to all assessment and intervention, in order to facilitate increased opportunity for change within clients.

  • Experienced in cognitive rehabilitation and use of technology to scaffold cognitive impairment and optimise function.
    Skills within upper limb rehabilitation, following evidence based practice within the context of function.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients, carers and all members of the team.

Emma has received numerous accolades over the course of her career, highlighting appreciation from clients and caters regarding her ability to listen, understand and offer bespoke rehabilitation programmes to achieve positive functional outcome.
